Quantya makes tracks with snowbike concept
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, On Two Wheels, Europe/EU
If you liked that whole snow scooter concept but wished for something that could really take on virgin powder, you might be interested to know that Quantya is working on an electric moto-sled of their own. The Swiss company has revealed a prototype that wears a ski up front like any proper snow-going vehicle and forgoes its normal knobbies for a Kégresse-type track in the back. The result? Frolicking in a winter-wonderland fun without the noise and pollution of a traditional snowmobile.
It’s still unknown at this time whether the design will make it to market since there are still some hurdles that need to be overcome. Turning a track in the fluffy stuff takes more juice than a traditional tire and batteries are not especially fond of the cold. According to our plugged-in source, Quantya is going to experiment with different set-ups over the next six months and hopefully have something to offer powder hounds next season. In the meantime, if you want to take on the snow on a zero-emissions sort of way, there’s is always pedal-power. Unfortunately we can’t offer video of the prototype in action (yet), but we do have footage of what may have provided the inspiration for this development waiting for you after the break.
